Using Global Search

Last Updated: May 20, 2015 08:35AM CDT
Finding the people, places, donations, organizations, email addresses -- even text in descriptions-- is essential to a daily use of Salesforce.

Before entering a new contact, organization or lead - ALWAYS SEARCH FIRST

Global Search is at the top of the page.

The "starts with" functionality helps when you aren't sure of spelling

This search will return everybody in your database whose first name is Marilyn and whose last name begins with an M.

Global Search allows narrowing your search

Description: 1.png
1. Objects that have results from your search will appear in the left column.
2. If you click an item in that column, your results will be limited just to that item.

Click Options for both Items I Own and Exact Phrase choices

Limiting your search results to "item I own" will keep the records you have created or that have been assigned to you.
Clicking on Exact Phrase will allow you to search for textual phrases, for example, using the exact wording you've entered.

Phone Number searches

Description: 1.png
- Find phone numbers by entering part or all of a number. For example, to find (773) 718-3434, enter 7737183434, 718, or 3434. To search for the last seven digits, you must enter the punctuation, such as 999-3434.
- Note that in the second contact record, the number 773 isn't in the results. The 773 number is an alternative number in Mr. Francis Scudellari's contact record.
